Bell Ringers

St Martin's Church has eight bells which are rung from the ground floor level in our bell tower.  The current band of ringers was formed in about 2011 and has steadily grown in numbers since then. It is a lively fun group of people and age does not matter, as long as you can reach the rope. We have had youngsters from 12 years of age who have learnt to ring.

We ring before the 9.15am Sunday Service and also for Festival Services and Weddings.  We meet every Wednesday evening in the bell tower at 7.45pm and the practice normally runs until 9.15pm.

Learners are very welcome to attend a Wednesday night practice, no previous experience is necessary. It normally takes from 3 to 6 months to learn how to handle a bell. It is not a daunting task and a novice ringer would have a teacher with them at all times until they are confident to handle the bell on their own.

This is a fun way of putting something back into the community. The bells stood silent for several years before our band was formed and it is lovely that we can now welcome parishioners on their way to church on a Sunday morning, and give a musical shout out to the rest of Ruislip.
