Dear Brothers and Sisters
It is clear that the situation in London regarding the pandemic is now extremely serious and that the infection rate is at a far more dangerous level than ever before. Infection rates in our own parish community are escalating and Hillingdon Hospital, in our own borough, is now reportedly overwhelmed with Covid cases.
We have therefore made the decision that the only responsible course of action is to suspend public worship once again. A pre-recorded Mass will be available for each Sunday on our website. Morning Prayer and Mass will be livestreamed every weekday morning at 9am on our Facebook page. St Martin’s Church will remain open every day for individual prayer only. I encourage you to visit our church as an act of pilgrimage if you are out for a walk.
On Sunday Mornings the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in church as a focus for prayer, adoration and worship between 10am and Midday. In this way we are still able to gather around the Lord who is among us in his Sacramental Presence. All our decisions now must be made in the light of our duty to protect the most vulnerable and to try to mitigate the terrible pressure under which those who work in the NHS, our schools and other public services are operating.
I will continue to pray daily for you and for the protection and wellbeing of all who live in our parish. We will review this situation regularly and hope that we come through this crisis safely. In the meantime, please follow our Sunday Masses and our daily Morning Prayer and Mass on this website and use the resources for prayer at home that are there. Please also continue to look out for neighbours in need as we journey through these dark winter months. Stay close to the Lord who promises to be with us even in the darkest times (Psalm 23)
Please pray for me as I pray for you.
