Bishop Winnington Ingram School
Tucked away from the high street, next to the River Pinn, Bishop Winnington Ingram Primary School is your village school in the heart of a busy town.

At our school, we know every child by their name and we embed our Christian values in every step of their learning.

We strive to become a part of your family and recognise the vital importance of a supportive, high quality environment where your child has the opportunity to reach their potential.

Should you give us the opportunity, we would be delighted to show you how our commitment, energy and creativity help to drive Bishop Winnington Ingram further forward in becoming the outstanding school of choice for your child.

Our Curriculum

We provide our students with a curriculum that is exciting, creative and exploratory. We promote hands-on experiences to ignite curiosity in the world around them; develop ideas and concepts that give them a voice and increase the skills and knowledge to enable them to be the best that they can be.
Our learning doesn’t just take place in the classroom. As well as taking advantage of the River Pinn on our doorstep for river dipping and environmental studies, we also take our children out to explore the local woods and lido.
We also have our own outdoor learning area for children to grow their own vegetables, dig for minibeasts and get close-up and hands-on with nature!
We value all our children as individuals who have the potential to develop into lifelong learners and responsible, self-confident citizens. We want to prepare them for life beyond primary school and we ensure that their spiritual, cultural, moral, mental and physical development will allow all children in our care to understand and celebrate diversity, identity and unity.
How children at BWI develop their faith with St Martin's

Children at BWI start visiting the church regularly from the very start of their time at the school. At the end of term, there is always a special service held at the church where we celebrate all that the children have achieved so far and ask for God's blessing on them for the future.
Different year groups will also visit the church at different times of the year to support their learning across the curriculum. For example, our year 6 children visit the church and its grounds as part of their work on WW2 to view and pay respects at the various war memorials as well as performing a special nativity at Christmas.
We also bring St Martin's into our school. Father Robert regularly preaches to the children in assemblies and delivers a special Mass for our KS2 children each term. Children produce work on St Martin and his life each year and we have special rewards which we place on St Martin's cloak for those children who have embodied our values and held them in their hearts each term.
